« Being good at anything is like figure skating—the definition of being good at it is being able to make it look easy. But it never is easy. Ever. That?s what the stupidly wrong people conveniently forget. » (p.8)
« Your wee voice doesn?t want you to sell something. Your wee voice wants you to make something. There?s a big difference. Your wee voice doesn?t give a damn about publishers or Hollywood producers. » (p.12)
« THE SEX & CASH THEORY: The creative person basically has two kinds of jobs. One is the sexy, creative kind. Second is the kind that pays the bills. Sometimes the task in hand covers both bases, but not often. This tense duality will always play center stage. It will never be transcended. » (p.13)
« But the kid thinks it?s all about talent: he thinks it?s all about “potential.” He underestimates how much time, discipline and stamina also play their part. Sure, like Bukowski et al., there are exceptions. But that is why we like their stories when we?re young. Because they are exceptional stories. And every kid with a guitar or a pen or a paintbrush or an idea for a new business wants to be exceptional. Every kid underestimates his competition, and overestimates his chances. Every kid is a sucker for the idea that there?s a way to make it without having to do the actual hard work. » (p.22)
« You have to find a way of working that makes it dead easy to take full advantage of you inspired moments. They never hit at a convenient time, nor do they last long. » (p. 44)
il tient à ce que son manifeste se promène, soit lu, soit échangé et discuté. pour lire son carnet.
