ce projet a quelque chose de fort intéressant. Un designer industriel américain, William Gordon, a décidé d'aller passer quelques mois aux Philippines via un organisme dédié à l'économie du pays. Il a, durant son séjour, fait le design d'environ 175 objets/meubles. une centaine ont été retenus et sont entrés dans le mode «production» (fait à la main par les philippins) dans diverses petites compagnies.
il raconte son périple à l'adresse un peu plus bas. c'est surtout ses réactions qui m'ont touchées. le genre de chose qu'on lit rarement dans le monde du design.
il nous fait réaliser que le design d'un objet est directement relié à son mode de production (ses photos le démontrent bien). donc, le designer est responsable de son objet. lorsqu'il connait la manière avec laquelle les choses se font, il est plus facile d'apporter des changements à son objet qui aura un impact direct sur la vie des gens qui doivent le faire.

That is why it is critical for designers to be involved with the factories that produce their products. I feel now that a designer is as much responsible for this as any other contributor, and should not escape blame when his or her product is made by children or in bad conditions.»
